The Walter Tishma Way (WTW) is a 42-mile Inn-to-Inn Hiking
Footpath that goes from Estes Park, Colorado to Allenspark, Colorado traveling
through Rocky Mountain National Park. Lodging is diverse
and makes use of what can be accessed along the way,
whether an intimate B&B, a historical lodge with small
rooms and the bathroom down the hall, a rustic cabin, or a
dude ranch. Luggage is transferred to the next destination
so walkers can travel light with just a daypack.
Hiking mileage is between 7 and 10 miles per day with
elevation gains between 1500 and 2600 feet. Nothing is
technical and there are some days with easier options.
Extra days can be added and are encouraged especially at the beginning of your trip.
Self-guided packages are offered anytime between the last week of May and the first week of October. Private guides are available at an additional charge. Footpaths is offering two guided group trips for 2010. A women's Only trip is offered June 6-10 and a mixed group is offered June 13-17.
We've had 187 people complete the trail as of 2009. It's clear that
this new way of hiking appeals to baby-boomers looking to
get back into the outdoors, husbands and wives sharing an
outdoor activity together, groups of friends and women's
groups. There's plenty of outdoor adventure, but in the evening
efforts are rewarded with cold beer, hot showers, a nice
meal with a bottle of wine and a comfy bed.
A word of warning: Long-distance hiking is addictive.
